My Style
Artist statement- When I saw Rene Magritte's paintings I notice that we both paint people without there faces. I don't know why I do it, but I feel its more interesting that way. Based on a unfinished sketch I'm going to create a piece that sums up my style, and I may implement styles from my old art work into this piece.

Man in the Bowler Hat Critique
Justin Daniels
Man in the bowler hat
The man in the bowler hat was a painting by Rene Magritte. It was painted in 1964 and it was part of the Surrealism movement in art that started in the 1920s. The painting shows a men in a suit wearing a bowler hat. The interesting part of the picture is that the man has a bird covering his face. Just like Rene's painting Son of man, the two paintings are very similar, but I believe there is two complete different meanings.
Rene Magritte is known for his paintings not showing peoples faces. This painting is not that different than the others. Looking at multiple of his paintings there is obviously a correlation, but each has a different meaning. For this piece Rene used a blue grayish color for the background. Combined with the suit, the painting gives off a dull vibe. The painting doesn't seem happy at all. This same vibe is also found in his other works.
Looking at the artwork I believe that the massage we can be blinded by the idea of peace. The bird in the painting is a white dove. Sometimes a white dove is known as a symbol of peace. Sometimes people are known to go to the extreme to achieve their vision of peace. So blind in fact that can cause more chaos to the world around them. I believe this because the white dove is in front of his face blocking him from seeing the world around him.
Overall I feel like this is a amazing piece. I really enjoy looking at it and it gives me inspiration. Its painted really well with a lot of detail in the wings. What I really love about this painting is the mystery of the true meaning behind the painting. I can only make guesses at this mystery.

No face
This is the third painting in which I didn't paint a face. What I was trying to prove is that everyone has a story. No matter who they are, or what they look like.
16 Shots Cubism
This painting was influence by the song 16 shots by Vic Mensa. Laquan McDonald was shot 16 times by the police, and was killed on sight. This is a tribute to him.
